What to expect at your first visit
At your first appointment, your physiotherapist will ask how your injury happened at work, what your job involves and how your symptoms are affecting your daily and work activities. They will then assess the injured area, including movement, strength and function related to your job tasks.
Based on the assessment, your physiotherapist will build a treatment plan focused on reducing pain and helping you return to work safely. Treatment may include hands-on care, exercise and guidance on modifying tasks while you recover. You will also receive a home exercise program. Your physiotherapist will track your progress and complete the reporting that is part of the WSIB process.
Conditions we commonly help with
- Back and neck strains from lifting
- Shoulder injuries from repetitive or overhead work
- Knee and ankle injuries from slips and falls
- Sprains and strains
- Wrist and elbow pain from repetitive tasks
- Recovery after a work-related surgery (see post-op rehabilitation)
Insurance and direct billing
If you are hurt at work, report the injury to your employer as soon as possible. A WSIB claim is then started, and you will receive a claim number. Bring your claim number and any WSIB paperwork you have to your first visit. For approved claims, our clinic bills WSIB directly, so you can focus on your recovery. If you are unsure where your claim stands, our clinic coordinator can help you understand what information we need.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a claim number before my first visit?
Having your WSIB claim number helps us bill WSIB directly. If you do not have it yet, call us and we will explain your options.
Do I need a doctor’s referral?
You do not need a referral to see a physiotherapist in Ontario. Your WSIB claim details are what we need for billing.
Will you help me return to work?
Yes. Your physiotherapist will focus on the movements and tasks your job requires and work with you toward a safe return.
Can I book evening or weekend appointments?
Yes. We are open seven days a week with evening appointments, which can make it easier to fit treatment around modified duties or your work schedule.
What should I bring?
Bring your claim number, any WSIB forms, and comfortable clothing that lets us assess the injured area.
